For those who may have left Vermont — but Vermont never left them.

Our Vermonter in Exile Hat proudly declares where you come from and where you still belong. The phrase is embroidered in green and black thread on a garment-dyed tan/green ball cap, giving it a well-traveled look that fits the story behind it.

The idea for the “In Exile” series actually predates Of Moose & Mountain. Back in 1992, after I moved from Maine to Vermont for work, I’d walk into a room and say just a few words — and more than once, someone would smile and say, “You must be from Maine.” By about the third time, the phrase Mainer in Exile came to mind — a way to claim your roots, even when you’re miles away.

What started as one design has grown into a full New England series, each version celebrating the pride of home — wherever you happen to be.
